PostHeaderIcon Understanding Ear Infection

Ear Infection
An ear infection is an infestation in the ear, caused by either bacteria or by virus. The http://www.xlear.com/articles/adult-ear-infection.aspx adult ear infection and the http://www.xlear.com/articles/inner-ear-infection.aspx inner ear infection are other names by which it is called. The scientific name is http://www.xlear.com/articles/otitis-media.aspx otitis media.
Ear Infection Causes
An ear infection may be caused by one or a combination of the following factors. Within the ear are tiny bones which help translate sound waves to the brain. The sound waves travel to these bones through the Eustachian tube, which in children is placed in more of a level position. When liquid is introduced to the ear through swimming or bathing, and if the liquid is not cleaned out by a swab, it may linger there and allow bacteria to fester. Though the Eustachian tube is more slanted in adults, similar infestation may occur if water is not cleared.
Even without water, ear wax may build up, also leaving the ear open to bacterial infestation. Ear wax build up should be cleared regularly, especially because viruses may speed up the possibility of infection.
Ear Infection Symptom
There are many http://www.xlear.com/articles/ear-infection-symptoms.aspx ear infection symptom to be aware of. Feeling pressure in the ear, or even an http://www.xlear.com/articles/earache.aspx earache, is indicative of the general build up of fluid or pus in the infected area. The infection may cause dizziness, nausea, or a feeling of fatigue.
Headaches, ringing, hearing loss, and ear drainage may also develop. Often, as symptoms grow more severe, blurry vision, vomiting, and diarrhea may also occur. These symptoms are more prevalent in children, who suffer an ear infection four times as often as adults do.
Ear Infection Prevention
Prevention is the best way to avoid an ear infection. Because the Eustachian tubes are connected to the sinuses, many nasal sprays have appeared on the market to help flush out the build up and bacteria in the Eustachian tubes as well as the nasal passages and the sinuses.
Many of the nasal sprays and other medicines available include http://www.xlear.com/articles/xylitol.aspx xylitol, which is a natural substance found in fruits and vegetables and used in our everyday metabolism. Xylitol is looks and tastes like sugar, though it contains fewer calories and zero http://www.xlear.com/xylosweet/articles/net-carbs.aspx net carbs. Xylitol is a natural bacteria repellant used to prevent more than just ear infection.
In understanding ear infection and its symptoms, prevention becomes the natural step. Xylitol as a leading ingredient is proven to reduce ear infection risk.

PostHeaderIcon Breast Cancer, The Cure?

There is no known cure for breast cancer. More than 1.5 million people will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year worldwide.

Scientists don’t know why most women get breast cancer, yet breast cancer is the most frequent tumor found in women the world over. A woman who dies of breast cancer is robbed of an average of nearly 20 years of her life. Breast cancer knows no social boundaries. It’s a disease that can affect anyone. Some prominent women who’s lives that have been touched by breast cancer include Jill Eikenberry actress age 52; Peggy Fleming age 49 figure skater; Kate Jackson age 50 (Charlies Angels); Olivia Newton-John age 50 actress singer; Nancy Reagan age 77 former first lady; Melissa Etheridge age 43 singer; and the beautiful Suzanne Summers actress. These high rates of breast cancer are not acceptable to the women of the world and must be met with scientific research that provides results.

Despite over a decade of research, and more than $1.7 billion spent, hundreds of women worldwide are dying from breast cancer every day. Yet doctors don’t know how breast cancer starts or how to cure it. Doctors are still approaching treatment for breast cancer in the same old fashioned ways: surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. Barbaric treatments? And scientists keep doing the same old redundant research that’s simply not working. It doesn’t have to be that way. Gen Cells Cures is a scientific biotechnology company that is focused on a cure for breast cancer. The company is dedicated to curing breast cancer before it’s too late for you. We’re not interested in a cure in five, ten, or twenty years from now. We want your cure for breast cancer within a year or two. We don’t want you to have to under go surgery, radiation, chemotherapy or take toxic drugs.

Why Gen Cells Cures? You can search the medical journals; you can search the internet until your blue in the face. You will find the same old news which is no new news about breast cancer research and treatments. Breast cancer research is locked up in a black whole. Gen Cells Cures is approaching the cure for breast cancer from different angles and using tomorrow’s scientific technologies today. Our expertise is in stem cell research and genomics. Malfunctioning stem cells have already been linked to the development of breast cancer. We’re not talking about using generic stem cells from an egg and sperm cell. There is no genetic match for you with the politically controversial generic stem cells that are always in the news. The isolation of cancer stem cells, coupled with our understanding of genetic mutations causing cancer, and our knowledge of genomics will result in ways to eliminate cancer cells while sparing normal breast tissues.

PostHeaderIcon Travel-Related Stress

Air travel can be very stressful and when traveling with children, it can be down-right painful. Research indicates that there is an increase in the amount of stress experienced when traveling today as compared to traveling twenty years ago. Couple this stress with the current security measures that we must encounter at airports (domestic and international) and we have double stress.

My family and I flew recently and it caused me to think about the major changes that have occurred when flying. Our scheduled flight (7:00 a.m.) meant that we had to be at the airport at 5:00 a.m. To make it to the airport by 5:00 a.m., we had to leave home at 4:00 a.m. In order to leave home at 4:00 a.m., we had to wake at 3:00 a.m. I think you get the point. Some may say, just take a later flight. Well, travel time on the expressway would take longer than the time it takes to fly to our destination. Arriving early, remembering what you can carry and what you cannot carry through the security check points can be daunting to say the least. With all this, believe it or not, there are some things you can do to decrease stress-related travel.

Give yourself plenty of time. In the past, I have been able to get to the airport “just in time” to catch a flight. Today, you will miss your flight if you arrive “just in time”. Believe it or not, there are some things that you can do to ensure that you will arrive to your destination a little less stressed.

1. Anticipate lines. There are lines everywhere. This is particularly true during the holiday travel times. Arrive early….arrive early….arrive early.

2. Check to make certain that your flight has not been canceled. This can be checked online. No one likes sleeping in on an airport cot.

3. Have your itinerary and identification available.

4. Know what you can take to the airport and what you cannot. Many airlines provide thisinformation on their websites. Check your airline’s website before you go to the airport.

5. Have proper identification. Proper identification for many airlines is a government identification card, driver’s license or passport. Check with your airlines to see what type of identification you need. Also remember to ask what type of identification is needed for your child.

6. Be prepared to take off your shoes at the security checkpoint. Wear shoes that are easy to remove.

7. Bring a magazine or book to read while waiting to board.

8. Bring a toy or game to distract your child. Remember, they get tired, cranky and bored too.

9. Have snacks available for your child.

10. Be patient. Understand that the precautions and check points help keep you safe.

PostHeaderIcon Starting a Tanning Salon

A tanning salon has a good business potential, even if less than 10% of those tan-desperate souls are visiting your salon. If there are days when the sun is not poking its head out of the clouds quite often, it means more business. This article tries to tell the reader about few simple things or steps that will mostly work for any entrepreneur, who wishes to take the first step in the tanning salon business by starting a tanning salon. Let’s see how it appeals to you.

From a business point of view, the tanning salon should ideally be situated in a happening area in the town/city, where there is enough visibility and easy accessibility for the customers. An efficient ad campaign could backup the initiative by drawing in more customers in less time.

It is very important that the tanning salon must possess a good ambience facilitating an optimum comfort level to the customers. Hence, it would be a better idea to consider hiring the best of interior designers to lay down the plans for the salon interiors. The layout of the salon should ensure that there is sufficient space for every piece of equipment without any crowding, meanwhile allowing enough space for the free movement of both the staff and the customers. The lighting arrangements must be both aesthetical and efficient.

But a decent tanning salon interior amounts to only half the work. It needs to be equipped with all the latest tanning equipments and other accessories so that the salon can offer the best of services to the demography of the region, meanwhile living up to the competition posed by other salons operating in the region. It is important that you have the right equipments and all necessary technical backup.

If you have a computer to manage everything from book keeping to appointment books and inventory in the salon, make sure that all the required software and hardware is in place, and a technical person for trouble shooting in emergency situations, so that even if there is a problem, technical assistance is available at an arms length.

Now, the most inevitable aspect in any business, where there is direct interaction with the common man – Marketing and Advertisement department. While remaining within your limitations, make sure that you have a parallel advertising and marketing mechanism that markets the service and name of your salon.

Above all these factors, the ultimate success of any tanning salon will entirely depend upon the services it extends to its customers over a period of time. And as long as the customer remains the king, every entrepreneur who invests his/her money in starting a tanning salon business cannot afford to forget this fact.

PostHeaderIcon Acne Program – Step 5: Foods to Stop Eating

Even though many dermatologist and doctors don’t see the connection between your diet, constipation, a toxic colon, and a toxic liver with the acne that you are suffering from, it does not mean the food you eat is not important in clearing your acne.

If the doctors were right about food and the colon, then they would easily be able to help you clear your acne with their drugs. Drugs can give you temporary relief, it they work at all, but as you use them they can also give you some unpleasant side effects.

In her book, Food And Healing, 1986, Annemarie Colbin, points out,

“In a systems view of the body, input of all kinds relates to output of all kinds. Food, therefore, would have a definite relationship to matter pushed out through the skin. I am continually amazed that dermatologists persist in viewing the skin as merely a protective envelope for the body, ascribing its eruptions to ‘viruses’ and imprecise malfunctions and supporting the myth that ‘diet has nothing to do with acne.’

In my experience, diet has everything to do with acne. Not only did I fix my own bad skin through correct eating but I have seen among my students a number of severe cases – the large purplish kind of acne on cheeks and chins – completely cured within three months by a change of diet.”

Foods to Stop Eating

If you smoke, drink alcohol or drink coffee, then this program will not work too well for you. When you have these addictions, your body’s minerals and vitamins will be out of balance and it will be difficult for you to achieve any state of good health.

So, here are they foods that you need to stop eating. You don’t need to stop eating these foods instantly. Not many people can do this. You need to do this gradually. I know it will be hard to stop eating some of these foods that you have enjoyed, over the years, but you have to ask yourself the question,

“Which do I want to be …Acne free or a junk food addict?”

The choice is yours and I know you will make the right decision so here is the list,

* White Bread – This is considered junk food since it is void of any vitality for your body. It is hard to digest and causes constipation
* Chocolate – some chocolates are better than others. Those that have saturated fats such milk, butter and sugars are not good for your health and definitely not good for your skin.
* Fried Fatty foods – fried foods, butter, chesses, beef,
* Foods in packages – All foods in packages or boxes are junk food. They are considered dead food and provide no life force to your body. They take from you because they use up minerals, vitamins, and digestive enzymes during digestion. They contain no fiber so they cause constipation.
* Foods with artificial flavors and preservatives – These are non-foods that are super toxic. Your body does not know what to do with them so it stores them in your body as toxic waste.
* Milk, ice cream, hard chesses – these foods cause allergies and cause mucus to form. This mucus coats the colon and other internal surfaces and interferes with the function of that area. Bacteria and other pathogens enjoy living in the mucus film. This mucus also tries to escape through the face when you have too much of it in the body. If you cannot digest dairy products, this can cause you to have acne.
* Sodas are the worst drink you can take. They contain plenty of sugar and phosphoric acid.
* Sugar is considered a white poison. It creates so many health problems in the body that the FDA should outlaw it.
* Salt – avoid salt only because it has iodine. Iodine has been shown to cause acne.
* Excess Vitamin B12 – can aggravate or produce acne.

There you have it. It takes a lot of will power and desire to change your diet. It can be done but do it slowly. Start changing your diet and see where you’re at in 6 months.

PostHeaderIcon Mattress And RESTORE® Memory Foam Technology

Fundamental to our wellbeing is food and rest. Both have evolved into complex sciences that are subject to serious study and frivolous and sometimes dangerous trends. Initially sleep would have been snatched; anything more than 15 or 20 minutes would have increased the likelihood of early man becoming prey to larger more powerful predators. In these circumstances soft ground or perhaps a broad tree branch would have sufficed for a quick rest. Even now when you are utterly exhausted you can sleep just about anywhere and in any position. With time we became more organized socially and technologically, with fire and weapons and larger groups we could settle and gradually leave the more nomadic lifestyle behind. Of course with security we could now group all those condensed periods of rest into a longer more conventional nights sleep. From that time to this we have searched for materials that will provide a barrier between us and the ground, something that is capable of changing any surface into a comfortable, safe and warm environment. Through time we have moved from straw beds to feather beds, springs to foam; finally arriving at memory foam. There is now a wealth of information relating to the necessity and benefits of a deep sustained rest as well as a better understanding of how this can be achieved. We now know that good health is interwoven with rest. A good nights sleep can has added benefits for our ability to concentrate and function normally throughout the day.

The problem with mass produced mattresses is they can only cater for general body shapes. The little bumps and curves that make us individual are left unattended. The muscles supporting these parts of our body never get the opportunity to relax. Where we feel this most acutely is the lower back and our neck. In both cases these muscles work all day to support large and uniquely shaped parts of our body. The lack of relief that an inadequate mattress brings can lead directly to lower back and neck aches, this is definitely not the way that you would want to begin a new day. The unique element memory foam brings to a mattress is to allow it to conform to each individual body shape. This means that no matter what size and shape you are you are going to get total body support. The muscles that previously remained tense can now relax and you can sink into that deep recuperative sleep we all need. The reasons why memory foam can succeed where other mattresses fail is due entirely to its unique construction. The structure of the foam allows it to react to both pressure and temperature.

The significance of this breakthrough is best illustrated by imagining you are floating perfectly level on a calm lake, your hips and head partly submerged in the water but every other point along your body in contact with the surface of the water. The effect is almost dream like. The effect of gravity has been minimalised and all the pressure on your muscles and skeleton have been removed. The effect of RESTORE® memory foam is similar. The unique construction of this material allows it to react to both temperature and pressure. The larger more prominent regions of your body meld to the foam while the curves of your spine neck and legs remain gently supported. The effect is the same regardless of your sleeping position. The other feature of RESTORE® memory foam that further enhances its effectiveness is its density. The high density of RESTORE® memory foam prevents any pressure build up where you are pressing most firmly against it, this is significant when you realise that the vast majority of people sleeping on conventional mattresses roll about during the night seeking more comfortable sleeping positions. This night time tussle is disruptive to not only your quality of sleep but to anyone else sharing your bed. If you are suffering from poor quality sleep then RETORE® memory foam mattresses and toppers could make tomorrow a better day for you.

Peter Robinson has developed the Restore Foam brand and a range of RESTORE® Memory Foam products to be market leading but extremely price competitive. A full range of memory foam matresses can be found via www.restorefoam.com

PostHeaderIcon Night Eating Syndrome and Sleep Walking

Eating while sleeping? It’s probably a disorder.

Has this happened to you?

You woke up one morning, and you found that there were wrappers of candy bar all over your kitchen. Incidentally, your stomach aches and you see that you had chocolate smudges all over your hands and face. Your parents or your husband tells you that you are up all night long eating, but surprisingly, you don’t recall that you did so. Your parents or your husband seemed serious telling you that you actually ate all those chocolates. Is there an inside joke?

Probably not, In fact, the symptoms show that you probably have a night eating syndrome.

Night eating syndrome, also known as sleep-related eating, is considered by medical doctors as a parasomnia. It is not a frequent sleepwalking type. People suffering from this disorder have experiences of recurrent eating episodes while asleep, without actually being aware that they are actually doing it. This nocturnal eating syndrome might happen most of the time that it would show significant gain in your weight. Although this disorder can affect people in all ages and sexes, the sleep-related eating affects young women more than men.

What is night eating disorder?

Also known as nocturnal sleep-related eating disorder or NS-RED, night eating disorder is not an eating problem strictly speaking. It is known as a sleep disorder type that enables people to eat while seemingly asleep. While sleeping, they could eat while in bed, or in some cases, roaming around the house or staying at the kitchen.

The people suffering from this disorder are not conscious during NS-RED episodes. That is why night eating disorder is always related to sleepwalking. Being asleep, they do not know that they eat and cannot recall any incident of eating the night before. If at all, they can only remember in fragments. The NS-RED episode more or less occurs somewhere in a state between sleep and wakefulness.

When people suffering from night eating disorder learn that they have such a problem, they feel ashamed and embarrassed. Some, even with evidence presented by his or her family members, deny that they did that. They cannot believe that they could do such a thing and cannot admit to themselves that they could not control themselves.

The food consumed during the disorder periods are most likely to be high-sugar, high-fat food that people usually avoid when they’re awake. In some cases, there are those who eat bizarre food combinations, such as raw bacon partnered with mayonnaise, or hotdogs being dipped in a peanut butter. Some even eat non-food items such as soap in the same way they slice cheese.

How can you get NS-RED?

According to recent statistics, about three to nine people or about one to three percent of the total population are most likely to be affected by the disorder, with up to 15 percent of those who have eating disorders affected by night eating disorder.

Many of those affected by the syndrome diet (or at least try to) during the day, leaving them hungry and very weak to binge eating during the night when their control to achieve weight loss gets weakened by sleep. Some people have medical histories of drug abuse, alcoholism, and other sleep disorders such as restless legs, sleep apnea, and sleep walking. They often get tired upon waking up due to fragmented sleep. Many NS-RED cases seem to run along family lines.

How can you eat and unable to remember doing so?

Actually, that could really happen. While research on this disorder is still not that comprehensive, there is a high probability that there are parts of the brain that are truly sleeping even though some parts stay wide awake. Also asleep are the parts that regulate your waking consciousness, so it is no wonder that you cannot remember any memories of gorging on food on the night before.

Is NS-RED curable? What should you do if you have it?

Thank god, treatment is available for your night eating disorder. Treatment starts with a medical interview as well as spending a night or two in a good sleep-disorders center where you brain activity can be monitored. Medication is sometimes helpful, but you should avoid taking sleeping pills as they can aggravate your sleep disorder by adding to the clumsiness and confusion upon waking up and may cause you injury as can regular use of these pills.

Yes, there is treatment. It begins with a clinical interview and a night or two at a sleep-disorders center where brain activity is monitored. Sometimes medication is helpful, but sleeping pills should be avoided. They can make matters worse by increasing confusion and clumsiness that can lead to injury. Regular use of sleeping pills can also lead you to dependency. It would be better that you ask a doctor on what medication to take.

PostHeaderIcon Skin Allergies

A skin allergy, or what is correctly called contact dermatitis, occurs when your skin comes in contact with something it is allergic to. There are many things that can cause contact dermatitis such as latex, hair dye, perfumes, make ups, bath powders and some household cleaning products. Latex skin allergies are becoming more common as latex is used in many products such as condoms, rubber bands, bathing suits and some toys. It is extremely important if you are allergic to latex that you advise your physician, dentist or any other healthcare worker so they do not use any latex based products on you. The most common skin allergens are poison ivy and poison oak. We all know someone who has come in contact with these in the garden at some point who have developed the painful and itching weeping blisters that accompany it.

Eczema is also considered a skin allergy. Eczema is generally an inherited trait and it usually starts in childhood. A eczema sufferer will have skin that is dry and itchy. There is sometimes also flaking and scaling of the skin and weeping blisters. Children who suffer from eczema are usually found to suffer from hay fever and asthma too.

Hives are another form of contact dermatitis that can be brought on from an internal allergen, such as an allergy to food or medicine, or from an external allergen such as contact with an animal, some plants (poison ivy or poison oak) or soap products. For some foods like chocolate, nuts, tomatoes, and berries can cause hives. Most hives appear quickly but are gone within 24 to 48 hours.

As with other types of allergies such as seasonal pollen, animal allergy or food allergy there is no cure for skin allergies. Most outbreaks of contact dermatitis can be treated with over the counter antihistamines. The best way to avoid an outbreak is to avoid what is causing the outbreak. You can look for non allergenic and fragrance free make up and beauty products. Those who suffer from eczema should avoid extremes of heat and cold and use heavy moisturizers on their skin to help protect and heal it.

PostHeaderIcon Diabetic Children’s Camps

As any sufferer knows, there are two types of Diabetes, type I and type II. The latter is sometimes called adult onset diabetes, and over 90% of diabetics suffer this type.

It therefore takes no great leap of imagination to realize that the vast majority of diabetics are adults. But children can also suffer from diabetes, and for such kids, there are problems to face that are very different to those of their diabetic seniors.

For example, a child with diabetes will obviously need close monitoring, and a great deal of constant care and attention from parents. This in itself is not a problem, but it may mean that the child may never spend a night away from home, and it is not uncommon in these circumstances for a child to have never met another child of their own age with diabetes.

Effectively, this is a very isolating period in a diabetic child’s life.

For theses reasons, many countries are now establishing special camps for diabetic children, to address these problems, by bringing a higher degree of normality to the life of diabetic children.

Such camps provide 24 hour professional medical supervision and care to all the children, and are an extremely effective way to give young people living with diabetes a chance to be independent and learn about their condition with the support of their peers and trained health professionals.

They provide an enjoyable and safe camping experience in a supervised environment, and often focus, at least to some degree, on increasing the children’s ability to manage their own condition.

Such camping conditions also create an environment which allows the interaction between young people with diabetes that may otherwise be denied through geographic isolation. These diabetes education and recreational camps are, of course, designed to be fun as well as educational.

Generally, they will offer a wide range of sporting facilities, which allow participants to try out new sports and other recreational activities, particularly team based activities, that they may often be otherwise denied. On the medical side, nothing is left to chance. Prior to camp, each participant is normally required to supply a detailed medical history and an indication of the management skills of the child.

Based on this knowledge, the camp can then offer the child the opportunity to learn further self management skills and how to interact with other young people with diabetes under professional supervision. Other people benefit too. Often, many of the “helpers” in such camps are volunteers, with little first hand knowledge of diabetes, and these people will learn a great deal from their exposure on a day to day basis to the children.

Even the health care professionals themselves can gain a valuable insight into the management and lifestyle of young people with diabetes that no textbook can provide.

These people usually report that they do learn a lot, and even the most experienced educators say they are moved by the realities of living day to day with these children And, last but by no means least, the parents enjoy a break from the daily routine of caring for a young person with diabetes, with the real likelihood that their child will gain confidence and increase their self management skills.

PostHeaderIcon Anxiety Treatment – The Natural Remedy for Anxiety Relief

L-Theanine, naturally occurring in green tea, proves effective in dealing with anxiety symptoms and providing anxiety relief

Anxiety is a state of intense fear, uncertainty, uneasiness, or apprehension due to anticipation of an imagined or real threatening future event. Anxiety can be both physically and psychologically devastating to the Anxiety sufferer’s life. Anxiety is often sub-categorized according to the focus of the perceived threat. There is social anxiety, separation anxiety, dating anxiety, performance anxiety, math anxiety, etc. Stress and anxiety often go hand in hand and can result in anxiety depression as the individual feels powerless to receive any anxiety help.

There are a variety of anti-anxiety treatments to consider in overcoming anxiety. For some, anxiety medications prove to be a source of anxiety relief. Other’s prefer not to use any of the anti-anxiety drugs and opt for more natural cures for anxiety management. These may include herbs for anxiety, acupuncture anxiety treatments, anxiety vitamins, aromatherapy for anxiety relief, even hypnosis has has proved beneficial overcoming anxiety.

This article discusses the perhaps little known amino acid L-Theanine as a natural remedy for anxiety relief.

L-Theanine is a unique free form amino acid found only in the tea plant and in the mushrooms Xerocomus badius and certain species of genus Camellia, C. japonica and C. sasanqua. Often drinkers of green tea report a feeling of calmness they feel after ingesting a cup or two even though green tea has roughly half the caffeine of coffee. This is due to the high L-Theanine content.

In addition to reducing anxiety symptoms, studies have shown L-Theanine may be effective in promoting concentration, supporting the immune system, improving learning performance, lowering blood pressure, increasing formation of the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA, and increasing brain dopamine levels among other positive benefits with no known downside.

Studies in cooperation with Taiyo Kagaku Co., The University of Shizuoka, and The Family Planning Institute of Japan have shown that women taking 200 mg L-Theanine daily have lower incidence of PMS symptoms. These symptoms include physical, mental, and social symptoms. Overall, a significant alleviation of PMS symptoms by L-Theanine was observed.

While still under investigation, L-Theanine appears to have a role in the formation of the inhibitory neurotransmitter Gamma Amino Butyric Acid (GABA). GABA blocks release of the neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin, playing a key role in the relaxation effect.

Everyone knows the effects stress and anxiety can have on an individual’s physical state of well-being. Fascinating neurochemistry research has revealed that given a shot of GABA essentially turned back the clocks in the brains of older monkeys, whose brain function briefly operated at levels normally seen in monkeys less than half their age.

GABA, or gamma-amino butyric acid, is a neurotransmitter chemical that is essential for optimizing how brain cells transmit messages to each other and acts to put a damper on unwanted brain signaling activity. Although GABA’s age-related decline has not been documented in humans, a host of studies in mammals, including other primates, suggests that a similar process is at work in people.

Monkeys ages 26 and 32 — considered old age for monkeys — that got GABA directly delivered to their neurons responded to visual patterns, such as flashing vertical and horizontal lines, in much the same way as monkeys aged 7 to 9 years old did.

Without GABA delivery, the monkeys’ aged brains had more difficulty firing neurons that specifically gauge various aspects of depth perception, motion and color. Instead, older monkeys have more random firings that make it difficult to observe visual nuances. In younger monkeys, GABA had no effect since their brains already had optimal GABA functioning.

L-Theanine is considered to be safe based on its historical use as a component of tea and on favorable toxicology studies. Tea is the most consumed beverage worldwide after water, and has been consumed for thousands of years by billions of people. It is estimated that a heavy tea drinker (6-8 cups daily) will consume between 200 to 400 mg of L-Theanine daily.

While dosage for depression and anxiety disorder remain individual, it is recommended to take 100 to 200 mg 1 to 3 times daily for anxiety relief. Based on the results of clinical studies, it has been established that L-Theanine is effective in single dosages in the range of 50-200 mg. It is suggested that subjects with higher levels of anxiety take a dose at the higher end of the effective range (100 – 200 mg) for overcoming anxiety.

PostHeaderIcon Coping With Stress

Stress is an inevitable part of life. We will never be able to get rid of it completely. In fact, you wouldn’t want to get rid of it completely because, believe it or not, stress is also good for you. Stress revs up our internal engines and makes us ready to take action. The problems arise when we don’t take care of the situations at hand. This keeps our engines running but we are not going anywhere. Life is not meant to be lived as a Formula 1 Race.

Lily Tomlin once said, “Some people say life is a rat race. If we take that attitude, then even if you win, you are still a rat”.

Life doesn’t have to be a rat race. We can learn to live with stress as we learn to allow balance into our lives.

How can we cope with stress?

The first step in coping with stress is to be sure that we get enough sleep. This is the first area that people fail in. They feel that because there is so much to do they need to cut back on sleep in order to get more time in their day. This is a never-ending devil’s circle because the less sleep we have the more tired we are and the less able to cope and then the more stress we feel.

Dealing with stress does not depend on the quantity of time we have but on the quality. If we are well rested we are clear headed and able to come up with solutions to our problems. If we are overtired we will accomplish little and keep going in circles.

Try and find a balance in your sleep cycle. Go to bed the same time each night and get yourself into a routine that your body can count on.

So rule #1 Get more sleep.

Rule #2 Eat a balanced diet.

What does diet have to do with stress? Everything! Our bodies need to run as a well tuned engine. If we feed it crap you will feel like crap. You need a balanced diet with fruits and vegetables and lots of water to keep running well.

Rule #3 Stop Procrastinating

Procrastination is the biggest stress producer. If you don’t have time to tackle your problems all at once at least put aside some time each day to work on a part of the problem. Take care of it in little chunks and before you know it the problem is gone.

A Mountain is moved one stone at a time. Start moving your stones and you’ll get rid of your mountain.

Rule #4 Manage Your Time Effectively

Just like money, time also must be budgeted. You only have so many hours in a day and they must be used judiciously. Balance here is the key. Make sure to take some time to work, deal with problems and relax.

You must be sure to include relaxation time for yourself, even if it is only 15 minutes a day. Add it to your schedule and make sure you take this time for yourself. Even if you must go to your room and lock the door to get it, be sure to do it.

There are many things you can do to relax and get your mind at ease. Simple things such as a walk outside can help restore frazzled nerves and give you time to reflect on your life. Other choices would be a nice, warm bath, or a quiet spot where you can meditate.

Mediation does not have to be anything grand or complicated. Just find some quiet time and let all cares out of your mind. Think of nothing for 15 minutes. I find it easier to imagine a black screen in front of me. Every time a thought comes through my mind I remind myself that I do not want to think right now. My black screen is on. Just do nothing, think nothing, be totally at peace for 15 minutes. It will do wonders for you. After you will find that you can think much more clearly. A quiet mind brings about answers that you would never usually think of.

Lastly, the effects stress will have on you is dependant upon the way you react to it. Stress is like the bully at school who keeps coming around to taunt you. You can let him have your candy or you can stand up and do something about it. The choice is yours.

God Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change

Courage to change the things I can

And the wisdom to know the difference
